Dear Kindergarten Families,
Welcome to West Heritage Elementary School. I am Ms. Jourdain and it is my pleasure to be your child’s kindergarten teacher. I have taught kindergarten and 3rd. grade. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Diego State University, and graduated with honors while earning my Master’s degree in Education from University of Southern California.
My vision and purpose as an educator is to provide excellence in early childhood education. I strongly believe that every child is entitled to a rich education. I give each student my best, as well as the opportunity to succeed. I have high expectations for my students, and I inspire and challenge students to achieve their goals. I promote self-esteem through positive reinforcement such as verbal praise, messages to parents, or treasure box rewards on the student’s desk.
Kindergarten is packed with important and exciting transitions while continuing to develop more academic skills. Your child will also go through a significant transition to more extensive learning. As your child adjusts, they may get tired at the end of the day or have trouble focusing as the day progresses…that’s normal! Most importantly, prepare your child for success by continuing the learning process at home with enriching books and activities that support what your child is learning in school. When your Kindergartener spends time learning new skills with you, it not only makes that time more valuable to your child, but it also helps them reach the milestones that are expected of them at this age.
As their Kindergarten teacher, it is my responsibility to take this opportunity to make a positive impact and build a strong foundation for my students to grow socially, emotionally, and intellectually.
Ms. Jourdain
