Sight Words

Sight Words Also Known as Bubble Gum Words

Believe it or not, approximately 50% of all reading texts are made up of 100 words!  These high frequency words are often referred to as "sight words" because readers need to identify them instantly, on sight.  The kids like to call them "Bubble Gum Word Lists" because they get a piece of bubble gum every time they pass a list of 10 words. Memorizing sight words significantly increases early reading fluency and diminishes frustration.
